Did you know that about one-third of congregations in the Mid-South District are without a full-time, ordained pastor? Many of these ministries are smaller in size and in remote locations. For a number of these churches, the key to maintaining a regular schedule of worship and active ministry is the service of a Deacon. To encourage and support our Deacons and other preachers of God’s Word, the Mid-South District recently began hosting weekly “Study of the Word” webinars. The Tuesday morning sessions offer a weekly study from the 3-year lectionary, led by President Roger Paavola, Pastor David Hormann of the District’s Missions Office and other presenters. To aid Deacons in sermon preparation, the sessions include a detailed look at scripture from its original languages, historical facts and their application to articles of faith. The webinars also offer participants the opportunity to connect with each other on sermon preparation and other ministry-related topics. “This time is one not just studying God’s Word, getting exposure to the original texts, but also learning from each other how God is working in each ministry and how we’re all participating in His mission. It is a joy getting to know these men,” explains Pastor David Hormann. For the Mid-South District’s leadership, it is a privilege to connect with and support our Deacons and other ministers as they serve some of our area’s smaller or more remote LCMS congregations.
Email Peggy if you would like to take part in these online sessions, which will have both audio and video participation options. We’re looking forward to developing together in the Word for the building up of Christ’s kingdom.
