On Wednesday, July 13, members of Christ the King and the Lutheran community gathered for “A Time for Prayer,” a service of scripture, hymns, and both corporate and private prayers. Our petitions were offered for healing, unification, forgiveness, and our Lord’s guidance during this difficult time. Pastor Mark Goble led the prayers, along with guest pastor Johnny Moore III from Freedom Church in Memphis. It was a time of quiet meditation, reflection, and peace. Pastor Goble closed the service with this prayer:
Heavenly Father, Your Son’s most sincere command to us was for us to love each other. Love covers a multitude of sins and, Lord, we are a nation with many sins to confess. We know that Your Son Jesus died, in love, for these sins. We are only able to love because You first loved us. Help us to see this, to believe this, such that we would love others. Lord, we earnestly want to do something, say something, in our own small way to help our community and our country. You have told us what we can do; help us, by Your Spirit to do this — to love, as You have loved us. In Your Son’s name we pray, Amen.
