Forgiven, A Post-Abortion Healing Retreat
We are pleased to announce that Grace Celebration Lutheran Church in Cordova, Tennessee was awarded an LCMS matching Life Ministry Grant (Million Dollar Life Match) to promote life. Our partner in the grant project is a pro-life organization called Life Choices. Life Choices is a Memphis Pregnancy Medical Clinic that provides safe and confidential services free of charge from a Christian perspective (they do not provide abortion services or referrals). The project is called, “Forgiven, A Post-Abortion Healing Retreat.”
This project directly focuses on the emotional and spiritual needs of women who have had an abortion. Not only is this an opportunity to bring the gospel of Christ to those who are experiencing the pain of their decision, but also to restore them to wholeness in Christ, empowering them to advocate for life and healthy family relationships from a Godly perspective.
This is accomplished through weekend retreats administered by Life Choices, and supported and emphasized by the congregation’s contributions to the weekend retreat experience and follow-up.
In support of the project we are tasked to write personal letters of encouragement, pray for the participants and leaders, and supply food for the retreat weekends. In addition our church will distribute gospel centered resources from the LCMS Life Library, such as, “Hope for Rachel” and “Katie’s Story,”and supply the participants with prayer cards and a brochure that shares the gospel and provides our church contact information with encouragement to stay connected.
Earlier this year the church raised a little over $2000 for this project, with a match of up to $2000 from the LCMS Life Ministry Grant. Recently, at our “Grace Cares” outdoor worship service and celebration, we joined with Mrs. Rachel Davis from Life Choices to announce the grant award for up to $4200 for this project.
