Mid-South District Disaster Response
Disasters can occur on varying scales and come in different forms but the result is that people’s lives are always impacted in some way. Tornadoes, floods, droughts, hail, fires, and earthquakes are just a few disasters that affect people’s lives. Civil violence, such as shootings, bombings, and other acts of terror, can be just as devastating as disasters occurring within nature. In the midst of disasters, God continually reveals Himself and makes His presence know. Motivated by Christ’s love and His Gospel, we are provided with opportunities to reach out to people who are in need physically and spiritually.
The Mid-South District is prepared to respond to immediate and long-term needs following natural and man-made disasters. We work in partnership with our local congregations, LCMS Disaster Response, and Lutheran Church Charities to build capacity and use resources to respond with Christ’s mercy and compassion to needs of members within the church and others throughout affected communities by providing the following:
- Pastoral care for LCMS church workers and members.
- Emergency funding assistance.
- Relief, recovery, and rebuilding grants.
- Resources (volunteer coordination, collaboration with and linkage to LCMS Disaster Response and Lutheran Church Charities).
As the Body of Christ in its local community, our congregations are uniquely positioned to engage people and to identify and meet their needs. Working together as individuals, congregations, the District, and Synod allows
Disaster Response to respond more quickly, meet more needs, meet needs more effectively, and eliminate duplication of efforts.
