The Mid-South District is excited to announce the recent addition of a new staff member: Rev. William (Bill) Zwick was installed as Executive Director for Missions and Ministry during the District’s Board of Directors meeting on February 8. Although new to the District staff, Rev. Zwick is no stranger to the Mid-South District, having previously served as pastor to the congregation of First Lutheran Church in Harrison, Arkansas. His journey to the Mid-South District, however, is an interesting one.
Rev. Zwick was born in Decatur, Indiana. He attended Valparaiso University in 1994. After working almost two years for a US Congressman, he attended and graduated from Valparaiso University School of Law in 1999. After 16 years as a either a deputy prosecutor or in private practice, Rev. Zwick traded the law for the Gospel enrolled at Concordia Theological Seminary in Ft. Wayne, Indiana. He then came to this district to serve at First Lutheran Church in Harrison as a vicar in 2018-2019, and then was called as the sole pastor from 2019-2022. He then accepted the call to serve as the Mid-South District’s Mission Executive.
Rev. Zwick has also served the church in various roles over the years as an elder, congregation president, and lay delegate to the 2011 Indiana District Convention as well as a lay delegate to the 2016 LCMS National Convention. He received training through Ambassadors of Reconciliation in 2016 to provide reconciliation coaching and mediation utilizing forgiveness and absolution. Rev. Zwick most recently served on the LCMS Board of International Missions from 2019 to 2022. Regarding this new role, Rev. Zwick expressed, “It is always a privilege to serve Christ’s Church and His people as a pastor, and now it is especially humbling to serve the District as the Mission Executive. I am looking forward to supporting the congregations and pastors in the District in proclaiming the Gospel to those around us.”
Along with Rev. Zwick, a gracious welcome is extended to his wonderful family. He is married to Kyeong-eun (“Carrie”) Zwick who was born in Seoul, South Korea. She graduated in 1995 from Ehwa Women’s University in Seoul, South Korea, with a degree in vocal performance, and then received her master’s degree in vocal performance from Butler University in Indianapolis. Carrie has taught piano or voice lessons to children for over 20 years. Rev. Zwick is quick to note that he married the true talent! They have two children, Mi-ree (17) and Will (15), who are presently home schooled through Wittenberg Academy.
The Mid-South District is very pleased to welcome Rev. Zwick to the staff and his family to the Memphis community. Rev. Zwick is eager to begin connecting with ministries and workers in his new District role—and the District will surely be blessed by the unique perspective his life experience will bring to its ministry!
