A Unique Celebration of the Mid-South District’s 50th Anniversary
What would it be like to hop on a bike (the kind with pedals) and trek from one end of the Mid-South District (northwest Arkansas) to the other (northeast Tennessee)? That’s exactly what one pastor will be doing this spring! In mid-April, Pastor Bill Ondracka of Christus Victor Lutheran Church in Knoxville will set out on a two-week journey across our entire District, stopping in 10 cities along the way to participate in scheduled servant events with others in our Mid-South Lutheran community. This unique event is the Cycle & Serve Tour – an effort to not only recognize and celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Mid-South District, but also to gather as a Lutheran family and serve our communities in Christ’s name.
For the most part, Pastor Ondracka will be doing the “cycling” part of this event – but we’re looking to the helpful hearts and hands of people like you to do the “serving.” Throughout the next few months, you’ll be hearing much more about the Cycle & Serve Tour and how you can be a part of the servant event that will take place when Pastor Ondracka rolls through your community. In each of the 10 cities where he will stop, one congregation will be coordinating the details of the servant event, inviting the other Lutheran congregations in the area to attend and participate.
Would you like to help “spread the word” about the Cycle & Serve Tour, encouraging members of your congregation to be there when Pastor Ondracka arrives in your community and participate side-by-side with him in the servant event? If so, please contact Renae McElwain (email) to talk about being a Cycle & Serve “Champion” in your congregation. Simply put, a “Champion” is a cheerleader that keeps the congregation informed, builds enthusiasm and encourages participation. We’ll even provide the pom-poms (the bulletin inserts, video announcements and other printed materials, that is!). Our prayer is that each congregation will have an enthusiastic Champion, making the Cycle & Serve Tour a very successful event that brings many Lutherans together for unique opportunities of service and celebration.
We look forward to sharing much more about the Cycle & Serve Tour as the schedule of servant events evolves. In the meantime, be sure to “like” mid-southcycle&serve on Facebook for the latest news!
