Grace Lutheran Church, located in Murfreesboro, TN, kicked off a community outreach project in the spring of 2018. Named Katie’s Garden, it commemorates Katharina Luther’s contributions to their community in Wittenberg.
The garden team at Grace grows a variety of vegetables, including zucchini, acorn squash, beans, peppers, cucumbers, and tomatoes. Volunteers from the congregation have been instrumental in donating plants and tending to the garden’s needs to include planting, weeding, watering and harvesting the fruits of the soil.
Vegetables are given away to members of the community each Saturday morning. Any vegetables left over from the giveaway go to help members of the congregation, as well as to local needs in the area.
