Sadly, communities in the Mid-South District find themselves struggling through the aftermath of another terrible disaster. Late last week (February 6, 2025), storms moved across Tennessee, spawning numerous tornadoes. For several communities of Morgan County in the northeastern part of the state, the damage and loss were significant—including the loss of a mother and her daughter.
As the deadly storms moved through the mostly rural county west of Knoxville, the Mid-South District’s primary disaster response team, Faith In Action, was monitoring the situation and already preparing to move in with assistance. Rev. Trae Fistler of Faith Lutheran Church in Hopkinsville, KY leads this disaster response team. He is providing regular updates on their progress on the team’s Facebook page at Faith In Action Disaster Response.
The Faith In Action team is blessed to be able to move into storm-ravaged communities and help people, without asking anything in return. The highly skilled team of volunteers regularly provides thousands of dollars in tree and debris removal services at no charge. And, of course, they take time to talk to, pray with, and comfort people when they need it most.
You can help the Faith In Action team continue to be a tremendous blessing to God’s hurting people through support of the Mid-South District’s Disaster Relief Fund. Through this fund, the Mid-South District helps meet the team’s equipment, transportation and supply needs. The fund also provides for direct grants to disaster victims once the initial “emergency response” phase is complete.

” ‘For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you clothed me, I was sick and you visited me, I was in prison and you came to me.’ Then the righteous will answer him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you drink? And when did we see you a stranger and welcome you, or naked and clothe you? And when did we see you sick or in prison and visit you?’ And the King will answer them, ‘Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me.’ ” MATTHEW 25:35-40
