On Saturday, October 8, 2016 the members and friends of Concordia Lutheran Church in Jackson, Tennessee loaded a sea container for its journey to Belize. This project has been the brainchild of Bob and Sharon Herndon, members of Concordia, for several years. “It keeps getting bigger and bigger” said Sharon. “This year we are shipping over 20,000 stuffed animals and toys to children in Belize”, and it is through the efforts of The Word At Work that distributing that many toys and stuffed animals for Christmas presents is possible. Besides the animals and toys, Concordia was also able to send 58 plastic sleeping mats, made by members of the church from discarded plastic bags, many boxes of school supplies, and clothing for children and adults.
Director Tim Tam talks about the Word At Work organization like this. “Our mission is to honor Jesus Christ by connecting resources with needs and people with opportunities to serve. These connections are directed by prayerful attention to where God is at work through His people in Belize and the US. Since 1996, we have been present, on the ground, and working alongside our dearest friends for the sake of the Gospel and empowering His children to BE the Word at Work.”
The members of Concordia will no doubt begin to save stuffed animals for next year. If you are interested in helping with this very worthwhile project, we ask that you contact the church office (731) 668-0757 and they will connect you with Bob and Sharon. May God be glorified through this project.
